Re: various takes
Fri, March 25, 2005 - 8:26 AMI don't know where to begin!!
Well, to start with, I read about Arthur M. Young's "Geometry of Meaning" from The Roots of Consciousness by Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD link and I must say I was most impressed. I really want to read more about him, or better yet, from him.
It's interesting to see Mishlove taking a back step in this revised edition from his earlier stance that astrology is a bunch of superstitious nonsense. I remember when I first came across this book thinking he was being a bit closed-minded. That’s OK though. I appreciate the skeptic’s approach because I believe I am skeptical as well. I just play in larger arena than some.
My own feeling about astrology is that if you peer long enough into almost any naturally occurring, repeatable phenomenon that has just the right amount of randomness thrown in and develop an intricate enough system, you can most likely eventually use it to great effect toward cracking the mystery of the interconnected all.
The fact that so many people have put so much effort into and have gotten results from astrology has made it effective for those who actually study it. My experience with debunkers is that they usually have minimal knowledge and base their assertions on misconceptions. I don't really pay that much attention to astrology but I've witnessed enough keep an open mind and not dismiss it right out.
I often ask myself why I seem to have this insane to desire to rationalize things that perhaps should not be rationalized. There are some things that science is simply the wrong tool for the job. Yet, that doesn't stop me from seeking, and I bow to the masters who can pick one line to research and come up with these amazing research projects. Better yet, publish all of these wonderful books to read!!
More to follow...

Yep, sure is lots of material to go through,
but I'm afraid that it's just the beginning.
Modok, I'm with you on the astrology.take.
Someone who definitely needs to be included here is
David Chalmers.
The following link leads to a comprehensive library of online papres on consciousness studies compiled by David Chalmers himself. Personally speaking, it's one of the best resources that I've come across, with many different aspects on the study of consciousness represented. This 'keep you busy looooooooooooooong time'. Enjoy!
