The One Consciousness awakening

The One Consciousness is experiencing through all of us. We are all of us (every manifest and nonmanifest being, not just humans) expressions of the One Consciousness experiencing countless different experiences from countless different points of view. It is sort of like a huge role-playing game it plays with itself. When it is in a role, it is really in it, and fully believes in what it is experiencing.

But right now the game is getting a little wacked out, so the One Consciousness needs to reset the game. In order to do that, it has to kind of "wake up" within the role-play -- kind of like waking up within a dream to lucid-dream. It is trying to lucid-dream, to operate within the game -- to continue playing as the characters, but with the conscious realization of who it really is.

There have always been people whose role in the game has been to try to awaken within the dream. The various spiritual disciplines developed over the millennia have been the way that the One Consciousness has practiced and gained experience at waking itself up in the game. That is because this time would come, when it would need to wake itself up completely and remember consciously, through its individual points of view, who it is.

This it is trying to do, in order to consciously re-set the game, which is getting wacked-out. But, actually, the crises themselves are created by the One Consciousness to catalyze our collective awakening. It is about to set the game at a new level of play, in which it dreams the dream lucidly, so to speak, with full awareness of who and what it is.

At our level, the individuated level, that means that individuals will live their lives in the awareness of being a single consciousness. That does not mean losing our individuated uniqueness -- on the contrary the One Consciousness expresses itself through endless creation of uniqueness. The universe is one, but it is not homogeneous -- the more we awaken to our oneness, the more we awaken to the wonder of endless unique manifestation.

But due to accumulated debris and rust in their channels (aka karma, trauma, ego, etc) the One Consciousness has a harder time awakening through some of its expressions than others. But when the One Consciousness awakens in someone, they remember. "Oh. Yeah. Of course. I knew it all along. We all know it, we are all the same being, I am everyone and everyone is me."

As mentioned above, at our level, the individuated level, that means that individuals will live their lives in the full awareness of being a single consciousness, and all the more aware of the precious uniqueness of their experience and their unique way of participating in the co-creation of the universe. After all, that is why the One Consciousness became "us" in the first place, in order to experience.

At that level, human behavior changes, not because the One Consciousness is "good" and tells people to be "good," but because, in awareness that they are One Being, they recognize that everyone's experience (including nonhuman beings' experience) is their own. A society based on empathy, rather than rules, behaves a different way.

People sometimes call this "enlightenment" or "awakening" and they talk about "who" is or is not "enlightened." But the awakening is not when "you" wake up but when the One Consciousness awakes through you. Not when "you" remember, but when it remembers through you.

When this happens suddenly to someone, especially someone unprepared, they may temporarily pass through a period of feeling messianic, deity-like, etc. But when they pass through that, they realize that the "messiah" or "God" is not them, it's all of us and far more.

Every individual who becomes "enlightened" contributes to the awakening of the human groupmind, and through the human groupmind, the re-awakening of the One Consciousness in every being, every river and mountain ... Human consciousness and the consciousness of the rest of creation have always been linked. The One Consciousness has been experimenting with a special brand of consciousness through us humans, but that experiment has run its course -- and now, as we awaken, the distinctive human modes of consciousness and other modes of consciousness (plants, minerals, etc) will be reintegrated, and we will all of us (all beings) have access to all modes of consciousness. Because we are all the same being.

Reality Manipulation

I'm fascinated by anecdotes that focus on Will and how careful prescription of intention appears to be made manifest in the material world. In a word, "magic." I've certainly done my share of dabbling. Alas, my interest ebbs and flows with my needs and ever-wavering curiosity. I now like to believe that my will manifests naturally through the pusuit of well-defined goals. Still, I've had some remarkable results and if I feel the multiverse is not obliging me on a time scale to my liking, I attempt to tip the scales.

My favorite success story is entirely frivolous. I wanted to practice casting a sigil for something that I wasn't particularly attached to the result, so I chose Dark Chocolate. Why not? After all, who doesn't love dark chocolate?

So I wrote down all the letters, I-G-E-T-D-A-R-K-C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E, removed all the repeat letters, scrambled the remaining letters into something nonsensical that I could still pronounce and then crafted a sigil out of the letters, kind of like I was creating an elaborate cattle brand. (If your wondering what a sigil is, an internet search pulls up plenty, but if you've seen X-men 2, the blue guy who could appear and disappear was totally covered in angelic sigils.) I then proceeded to enter a meditative trance state and at the appropriate time, launched the sigil, burned if for good measure and proceeded to forget about it, a crucial step in my opinion, so as to avoid conflicting messages to my sub-conscious mind and from there out to the nether realms.

It's all about results. Why else would you pursue a course of action? So, I wasn't too surprised, but certainly pleased, when 3 days later my mother-in-law pulled me aside and led me into her bedroom, where she opened the top drawer of her dresser and pulled out a sizeable box of Godiva 72% dark chocolates and said, "I just got these, but I only need a few, so I thought I'd give the rest to you." If you knew the rocky relationship I have with my ma-in-law, you'd likely be shocked. I admit, if I hadn't cast the sigil, I would have been floored by the gesture. Instead, it just got the wheels turning in my mind. It was obvious to me that I'd influenced my local reality. The part that gets me is that I seem to have done so by influencing my ma-in-law, a being who is very wont to demonstrate that she is capable of free will. It almost feels like cheating. Kind of how I felt when I sold my house in five days after a heartfelt incantation.

I liken a good magic ritual to a good heartfelt prayer, only generally speaking, a good ritual will be far more focused. Certainly not if the prayer is done with proper intent, in which case there is no point in distinguishing it. I feel it is the intent behind the action that puts the wheels in motion.

Does anyone have any similar experiences?

I thought I'd share a few of my favorite books about the nature of Consciousness and hope that you will do the same.

The Self-Aware Universe - Amit Goswami
This is my favorite book on the nature of consciousness. Amit Goswami explores Monistic Idealism, a philosophy that places consciousness over the physical world, which is merely the manifest form of said consciousness.

The Dreaming Universe - Fred Alan Wolf, Phd.
This is the first book I ever read that bridged quantum physics and consciousness, with the idea that we are an interdependent part of a larger consciousness. Dr. Wolf has written several more books since but this is of highly sentimental value to me, so I chose this one to list.

The Dimensional Structure of Consciousness - Sam Avery
Perhaps, not as well known as the others, none-the-less an important work that presents a very compelling argument for a physical basis to immaterialism.

There are many more, but I'll leave room for some more of the good ones from you!

Does Consciousness create the physical world?

Let's cut right to the chase. My belief is that Consciousness is more "real" than "reality". The idealist philosophy comes in many shapes and guises but essentially claims that all of this stuff that is so obviously real, right in front of our faces, is in fact, all an illusion. Even better, it appears to be a shared illusion. It seems that we are tiny pieces of a much larger consciousness.

This means, of course, that we are responsible for the mess the world is in today. It also means we are responsible for all of the joyful and wonderful experiences as well. And all of the beauty.

When I say "we" are responsible, the fun part is ruminating on just "who" is doing the collapsing of all those probability waves. Humans are an arrogant lot and most people wouldn't like to consider the fact that we share our reality creation with other forms of consciousness, but why not? For that matter, what is consciousness anyway? Is a tree conscious? Who can say definitively? You can measure a reaction from a plant if you tell it that you are going to cut off all of its leaves. Is it conscious?

Certainly the materialists will scoff and tell us that consciousness is mere epiphenomena of the brain. I don't buy it. Take the plant for instance. It obviously doesn't have a brain. Yet it plainly reacts to emotional input.

So, what are you thoughts?

Local reality

Can a group of people living in isolation create a unique reality paradigm? I'm thinking of, for example, a Tibetan monastery where astounding feats such as levitation, teleportation and the ability to adjust one's own body temperature to withstand any external conditions have all been witnessed on numerous occasions and are seen as the result of diligent practice.

How much of a role does the firm belief held by all local inhabitants factor in these successes? How easily are such results duplicated outside of such an environment? My take - not very!! Lastly, how much can be attributed to the fact that given the environment and the lack of worldly distractions, anyone can accomplish these things, regardless of any local paradigm?

I suspect that while the environment plays a large part, the supporting cast plays a highly valuable role in creating a reality where such breakthroughs are possible. Of course, once one has succeeded at such astounding feats, they should be repeatable in any setting.

What is Consciousness?

The million dollar question. I can't say that I have yet developed a definitive definition, though that doesn’t prevent me from having strong opinions on the subject. When in doubt, quote your favorite authority figure! ;-)>

Fred Alan Wolf had this to say in an interview...

“Consciousness seems to be a process where an environment becomes defined, and where an observer of that environment becomes defined simultaneously. That action, which may not require thought, but which nonetheless seems to require some kind of awareness, seems to cause a split between the subject and object between the Out-there and the In-here, or between the Self and the Not-self. Consciousness seems to require this process of being able to refer oneself as an entity or something that is separate from the outside world.

It seems that the dream is the place where one learns how to become aware and separate an Out-there from an In-here. The dream is a laboratory of the self. It's the way in which an entity becomes defined to itself. It's a self- referencing process, and the self-referencing process appears to be absolutely necessary for any kind of consciousness to occur.”

To start with, I’d like to quote one of my favorite authors, Amit Goswami, from the first chapter of his book, The Self Aware Universe.

“A critical level of confusion permeates the world today. Our faith in the spiritual components of life – in the vital reality of consciousness, of values, and of God – is eroding under the relentless attack of scientific materialism. On the one hand, we welcome the benefits derived from a science that assumes the materialist worldview. On the other hand, this prevailing worldview fails to satisfy our intuitions about the meaningfulness of life.

During the past four hundred years, we have gradually adopted the belief that science can be built only on the notion that everything is made of matter – of so-called atoms in the void. We have come to accept materialism dogmatically, despite its failure to account for the most familiar experience of our daily lives. In short, we have an inconsistent worldview. Our predicament has fueled the demand for a new paradigm – a unifying worldview that will integrate mind and spirit into science.”

The idea that consciousness is a mere epiphenomenon of the brain does not sit comfortably with many people. This forum is dedicated to the discussion of the nature of consciousness and its role in the manifestation of our consensus reality.

The only ground rules are that you respect the opinions of others. Feel free to attack the ideas, but not the individual.
